Cook, Geisel attend Region Chorus Festival

On March 25, seniors Jade Cook and Shane Geisel attended the Region Chorus Festival at Conrad Weiser Middle School. The festival usually lasts three days, but due to COVID-19, it took place for only one.

After the district chorus ensemble ended, Cook and Geisel received the music they needed to practice for the regional chorus event. Once they were at the event, they met the guest conductor and started preparing the songs for the concert with all the other students. The chorus then had to fine tune each song and make sure they sounded how the conductor wanted. They rehearsed for about an hour for each song.

“I learned a lot about how other people sing and how I can manipulate the sound of my voice to blend with other people around me,” Cook said.

In a choral group environment, blending your voice with the people around you is an important goal. Along with learning more as a vocalist, Cook also met many new friends. Meeting new people is one of the best parts of the festival in both Cook and Geisel’s opinion.

“The best part about the entire festival had to be the people we got to meet there,” Geisel said. “Everyone is different, coming from their own little part of Pennsylvania, but at the same time, we all have our similarities.”

He also recommends for anyone interested to audition in the coming years, as it is a great experience.

Cook’s favorite part of the event was the end result of the concert.

“I love hearing how far we’ve come in just a short amount of time that we’ve been there,” she said.
