On Nov. 15, there was a Spanish trip where 56 Spanish 4 and AP Spanish students visited the Repertorio Español theater in New York City to watch “La Gringa,” a play about a Puerto-Rican American woman struggling to find her identity in Puerto Rico while visiting family.
“Taking the kids to New York was the best out-of-class experience that they can get close to home,” Spanish teacher Mr. Gary Cotroneo said.
The play was an hour and a half long with two acts and no intermission.
“La Gringa” included a conflict with the main character, Maria, coming to Puerto Rico on vacation and seeking to move there, but her family believes she doesn’t fit in because she is from New York. The play had a message about how people don’t always know the full story of what goes on in someone’s life.
“This year’s Spanish trip was an awesome experience,” junior Sophia Gentile said. “The show ‘La Gringa’ made us all laugh, even if we didn’t understand every word, we still used context clues to figure it out.”
After the play, the students traveled to the Rockaway Mall in Rockaway, NJ for lunch.
Students were given 45 minutes to eat at the food court.
