The Early Childhood and Healthcare CTE programs hosted the Teddy Bear Clinic for the preschool children on Feb. 20.
The day was split into two sessions: the level three CTE class with the a.m. preschool class and the level two CTE class with the p.m. preschool classes.
The session consisted of five different stations which consisted of a preschool student accompanied by an early childhood CTE student to each station.
The children started by registering the teddy bears in with a colorful pain scale, and then they brought them to hospital beds for a check-up. After the healthcare students checked the teddy bears, the preschoolers brought the bears to a handmade x-ray machine where they were put through and told if there was anything broken. When the x-ray was taken the bears were brought to a group of healthcare students to get their teddy bears bandaged up. Once they were done they received a certificate saying their bear was all better.
After giving the certificate to the child, they got goody bags and were given paper and crayons to color.
“It was good to be with the kids and helpful to learn how to interact with them,” healthcare student Hailey VanJahnke said.
The teddy bear clinic idea was suggested by teacher Mrs. Barbara Coyle who found that hospitals and doctors offices to help make kids feel better about going to the doctors office and hospital.
