The freshmen, sophomore and junior levels of the Combo program debated against one another during the annual Combo debates on Dec. 5 and Dec. 6.
This year, students debated whether or not schools should permit phones, if TikTok should be banned in the United States and if the Electoral College should stay in effect. Each team was assigned either a pro or con side of one topic.
Students had five weeks to work with their teams to create speeches and questions for the day of the debate. While preparing, students had the opportunity to “mock debate” with the opposing side, but unlike the real debate, it was with students within their own Combo level.
The debate award ceremony will be held on Dec. 13 where awards such as Best Questioner, Best Speech and Best Debater will be awarded.
“Debates gave me the confidence to speak in front of others,” first-year Combo 11 student Adeline Handy said.
