To celebrate the beginning of the holiday season, students of the jazz band and band performed at the annual winter concert. The concert took place on Dec. 10, and students had the opportunity to demonstrate their musical talents.
Band and jazz band director Mr. Richard Bullock noted how important the concert is in bringing the community together.
“It gives our students the opportunity to showcase their hard work and effort,” Mr. Bullock said. “It’s also a good way for the community to come together and listen to some good music.”
Students have been preparing since October to perform a total of 11 songs.
Students in the jazz band performed “Let it Snow!” by Julie Styne, “Respect” by Otis Redding, “Don’t Know Why” by Jesse Harris, “Caravan” by Ellington & Tizol and “Zoot Suit Riot” by Steve Perry.
The band students performed “Toboggan” by JaRod Hall, “The Eighth Candle” by Steve Reisteter, “Rippling Watercolors” by Brian Balmages, “Overture from Candide” by Leonard Bernstein, “A Christmas Festival” by LeRoy Anderson and “Arabesque” by Samuel Hazo.
Mr. Bullock explained how the different types of music allows for students to showcase their range of capabilities.
“For about two hours, the community gets together to listen to a variety of music and are shown what the kids are really able to accomplish,” Mr. Bullock said.
Mr. Bullock highlighted junior trombonist Beatrice Blanchard, senior baritone saxophone player Caden McGoey and senior bass player Nico Carlozzi for their performances and hard work leading up to the concert.
Mr. Bullock stated his pride and appreciation toward his band and jazz band students’ persistent practice and rehearsal.
“I’m very proud of them [the students],” Bullock stated. “Anybody that is [was] in the audience is [was] in for a treat.”
The annual winter band and jazz band concert presents an opportunity to relax and listen to holiday music.
Mr. Bullock stated that he had been a part of these winter concerts since he first began his career at the school.
