The Warriors lost to the Eagles 44-29 on Dec. 17. They were led by senior Ciara Newton with 11 points and seniors Rainna Carr and Keira Lazzaro with four points each.
Head coach Mikaela Smith expressed her pride in the team’s ability to have increased ball movement and shoot efficiently.
“When we had shots on the outside perimeter, we took advantage of those, and then moving the ball up the wing too,” coach Smith said.
Coach Smith also explained that a reason for the loss was the team’s ineffectiveness to adapt to Mountain View’s style of play.
“We play [a] post game a lot and with their 6’ 2” center, that just wasn’t going to work tonight. We didn’t adjust to the game, like the style of play and the lockdown defense they played,” she said.
The momentum in the second quarter allowed the Warriors to still stay in the game, which consisted of a three-point shot by Newton and layups by Lazzaro and sophomore Amanda Aragona.
“In the second quarter, we got a couple quick buckets. Newton had a couple of good shots. Aragona had a layup, Lazzaro had a layup. It was the momentum that got us back in the game at halftime,” coach Smith said.
The Warriors hope to improve their aggressiveness against Stroudsburg on Dec. 23.
Overall, coach Smith is satisfied with how the team has played thus far.
“I think that we’re playing as a group better. We just need to kind of find our groove,” she said.
