The Palisades fire started in the Pacific Palisades on Jan. 7 as a brush fire but quickly spread into a wildfire affecting cities like Malibu and Los Angeles.
The fire has burned through over 23,000 acres of land and has been 87% contained as of Jan. 26.
The Eaton fire also started the same day as the Palisades fire in Eaton Canyon. It is almost 100% contained as of Jan 23.
The Palisades and Eaton fires are the most destructive forest fires since California officials started keeping track in 1932.
The cause of the fires are not confirmed yet, but it is most likely because of windy conditions and dry weather.
Over 200,000 people were under evacuation orders from the Los Angeles area because of the fires. At least 27 people have died from the fires and over 7,000 structures have been destroyed.
Along with the Palisades fires, the Hughes fires have also affected Los Angeles burning 10,000 acres. Other fires that were active during the height of the Palisades fires like Lidia, Archer, Woodley and Sunset have been declared as inactive.
The Palisades fires have done close to $20 billion in damage and could reach up to $50 billion.
Pacific Palisades had rainfall on Jan. 28 which helped put out more of the fire but also caused a mudslide on Topanga Canyon Boulevard, leading to the road closing temporarily.
Celebrities like Ariana Grande are posting about small business owners who are helping people affected by the fires with food, clothes and shelter. Tyler, the Creator has used his clothing company, GOLF le FLEUR* to help those in need. Animal shelters in Los Angeles have taken in pets and are looking to rehome them again.
