As a senior in high school, I tend to look back and ponder the decisions I’ve made throughout my years in school. If I could go back and change one thing, I would have picked up a hobby.
Hobbies include sports and clubs, as I have definitely spent my fair share of time in both of them, but outside of school, I have never had my own hobby to fall back on.
Like I’ve said in a previous column, it is important to take time for yourself, but I think it is also important to find your own hobby to enrich that time with.
While enriching your mind in a hobby, it is easy to let go of any stress you might be dealing with. You also get to control the time, money and effort you want to put into your hobby. If you find yourself succeeding within it, you never know what future success could come out of it.
Painting, drawing, music, cooking, baking and gaming are some of the hobbies that come to mind. I know many people who have been able to use their hobbies to escape their daily stresses and find peace.
Even now, I haven’t found a hobby for myself yet. I’ve realized I am not that creative or artistic, but you don’t always have to be good at something to enjoy it. If there are hobbies that you don’t enjoy, you have to remember there are so many out there. Some unique hobbies I know people enjoy are gardening, beekeeping, knitting, crocheting or even collecting.
I think hobbies could help anyone find peace and joy if their life feels too overwhelming. Don’t be scared to try new things and enrich your life. Not only could it lead to happiness but also a more balanced life.
