In their second meetup with the Wallenpaupack Buckhorns, the Warriors emerged victorious last Tuesday, 62-60.
The entirety of the game was a neck-and-neck battle; while DV was outscored 26-24 at half, they came back to finish the Buckhorns 38-34 the second half.
Freshman Trey Newton led the Warriors with 16 points, followed by sophomore Sam Wood and senior Isaiah Berrios each putting up 13. Defensively, head coach Kris Holtzer recognized seniors Logan Olsommer and Berrios for their play.
However, coach Holtzer believes that their defense struggled during the game.
“We lost some assignments, and we kind of just lost guys,” he said.
Despite struggling defensively, the Warriors were still able to work the floor on offense.
“I thought we were taking too many threes, but we started to get into the paint and open it up,” coach Holtzer said.
According to coach Holtzer, Berrios had a major turning point in the game with two three-pointers in the third quarter. Accompanying him, junior Tyler Lombardo also played a huge role with his drives to the basket.
Even with the close game and a shortened rotation, coach Holtzer remains proud of the team.
“I love this team. They battle,” he said. “I didn’t play a lot of guys, but we are all happy we won.”
The team facedValley View and Scranton away last Friday and Tuesday, respectively, coming out of their away stretch 0-2.
The team battled North Pocono last night and begin playoffs next week
