The wrestling team competed in the District 2 AAA dual championship on Feb. 1. The team lost a tough battle against a competitive Wallenpaupack team with a score of 38-17.
Senior Luke Brazanskas wrestled first for the Warriors and started the team off strong with a win by major decision. Senior Topher DellaBella had a crucial pin in the heavyweight match. Sophomore Andrew Elliott and senior Brady Colville also collected victories for the Warriors.
Head coach Lou DeLauro highlighted performances by Brazanskas and DellaBella.
“Luke starting off with a win gave us some momentum, however, it shifted rather quickly after that,” said coach DeLauro. “I believe the heavyweight match, with Topher’s pin, shifted momentum back to us.”
Overall, coach DeLauro noted that the team did an excellent job competing despite injuries and other factors.
“I do think it was a pretty successful year for us,” coach DeLauro said. “It’s something we’ll continue to grow on.”
The team hosted Pleasant Valley on Feb. 5 for staff appreciation night. Coach DeLauro said their victory was a complete team effort.
The Warriors will compete individually in the district tournament at Wilkes-Barre Area High School on Feb. 21 and 22.
