Ariana Grande released not only a deluxe version of her album “Eternal Sunshine,” which included six new songs, but she also released a short film by the name “Brighter Days Ahead” on March 28.
Each of the songs have their own individual style, yet still manage to blend well together into a storyline of the aftermath of a breakup and overcoming it.
The six songs include “intro (end of the world)- extended,” “twilight zone,” “warm,” “dandelion,” “past life” and “ Hampstead.”
It was interesting to see how Grande would address her recent divorce, despite it stating for her to not address the reasonings publicly, she still makes references to it and modifies certain words so as to not cause suspicion. Within the lyrics of “twilight zone,” she expresses how she doesn’t want to pretend that her recent songs have been about Dalton Gomez, her ex-husband.
The song “twilight zone” sounded similar to “we can’t be friends (wait for your love)” especially the harmonization she does towards the end of the song.
The beginning of “dandelion” with the trumpet solo sounded almost like a noir film and the change to becoming a modern beat just highlighted the song even more.
Many fans infer that the film is based off of Grande’s recent development of her relationship with her father, who had divorced her mother when she was younger. Because of her recent divorce, many believe that it was a catalyst to bringing the two closer together.
The album is inspired mainly by the film “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” an emotional film where a break up leads to the main characters erasing their memories of each other, but toward the end, it shows the characters constantly going back to each other, continuing the process yet again.
The songs were an amazing inclusion to the album, and the lyrics were able to highlight her intention with the album even more. The album cover is definitely a representation of how the average listener may feel when first listening to the album.
