This day in history: ‘Baby Fae’, baboon heart recipient, dies
Baby Fae, an infant with a fatal heart disorder, received a baboon heart transplant on Oct. 26, 1977. Baby Fae was the first to surpass the three and a half day record of infants passing away. But eventually her body tried to reject the transplant and she went into kidney failure. Baby Fae died shortly after.
