This Day in History: Woman hit by meteorite
On this day, 1954, a meteorite weighing 8.5 pounds flew through the roof of, and impacted, Mrs. Elizabeth Hodges. The incident occurred in Sylacauga, Alabama and is the only recorded instance in modern history of a space rock hitting a human. Although the sizeable rock caused temporary bruising, there was no permanent damage done to Mrs. Hodges’ leg.
