Junior combo student advances to district contest

The annual Rotary essay contest was held in February for all juniors and seniors to participate in.

The goal of this contest is to gain visibility for Rotary in the community and to foster student creativity and positive outlook.

The essays that participants wrote had to be 1,000 words.

This year’s theme is “Create Hope in the World: How can Communities,  Schools, Families and or Friends Support mental health with caring, giving and compassion?”

The Combo 11 class had three winners, juniors 1st place- Marissa Gates, 2nd place- Ava Kraszewski and 3rd place- Peyton LaRocco.

Gates is the only participant moving onto the next round due to the fact that she placed first. She tied for third place in the district competition.

“The Rotary essay contest is a great opportunity for students, and I think more students should participate in the contest,” Gates said.

The district competition winners were invited to a lunch at Skytop Lodge to celebrate their success.

All three local winners were taken to the Dimmick Inn for a breakfast provided by Rotary with Combo teachers Dr. Nicole Cosentino, Mrs. Leslie Lordi and Mrs. Jaqueline Weston. The winners read their essays and were recognized for their writings.

“I wish more events like the Rotary essay contest were promoted In Delaware Valley, ” Gates said.
