Astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore were stuck orbiting space for 286 days and finally returned home to Earth March 18.
Williams was the first to do a space walk this year, as mentioned in an earlier edition of the Del.Aware. It was a six-hour long space walk that focused on the maintenance of the shuttle and the repairing of the shuttle went successfully.
The two had their first interview since coming back to Earth with NBC News on March 31, in which they stated they were shocked at how much focus there was on their mission.
Williams and Wilmore were returned back to Earth in a SpaceX Dragon capsule, landing in the Atlantic ocean off the coast of Florida.
The two told NBC News they feel they were not stranded in space, as they enjoyed being there well past their return date.
The two enjoyed the prolonged journey so much that they said they would go back to space with the same brand of space shuttle, Starliner, if given the opportunity.
Wilmore said that he should have asked more questions before getting onto the ship nine months ago, but having trust is all that matters in the situation the astronauts ended up in.
“We’re gonna fix it and we’re gonna make it work,” Wilmore said. “NASA is completely committed, and with that I’d get on in a heartbeat.”
