The girls basketball team defeated the West Scranton Invaders 69-59 on Jan. 30. The senior night win improved their record to 6-12.
The Warriors were led by senior Ciara Newton with 15 points, senior Keira Lazzaro with 13 points and six rebounds and senior Rainna Carr, junior Brianna Waldron and sophomore Amanda Aragona each had 10 points. Waldron also recorded her first career double-double.
Head coach Mikeala Smith was proud of how the seniors performed.
“I felt each senior came out and did their job very well,” coach Smith said.
Coach Smith also highlighted Carr as fulfilling her role as a defensive force, while also contributing to the offense.
“I told Carr going in, I said, ‘Rainna, that is your job to lock her down in the paint, I don’t care if you don’t score any points,’” coach Smith said. “She even stepped up and ended up scoring 10 points for us.”
Coach Smith was also impressed with how the team improved their offense since the beginning of the season. She said that the girls improved their offensive IQ and became more collected and patient.
The Warriors will be playing in their first district game on Feb. 18 against the Wilkes Barre Wolfpack.
