Jonathan the tortoise celebrates 190th birthday

Jonathan is a Seychelles giant tortoise, a subspecies of the Aldabra giant tortoise. He is currently the oldest living land animal in the world.

He was taken from the islands of Seychelles in 1882, and brought to St. Helena, the South Atlantic island.

His estimated date of birth is sometime before 1832, and is celebrating his 190th birthday this year.

To celebrate his birthday, he received commemorative stamps from the island’s governor, Nigel Phillips, and also received a cake from his caretaker, Joe Hollins.
