The orchestra and chorus performed their annual winter concert, bringing families and friends together for a night full of music.
On Dec. 12, The string orchestra performed first, followed by the chorus and ended with a combined performance. Both ensembles each performed a total of five pieces, including classic holiday songs like “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and “Do you Hear What I Hear” as well as their combined performance of “Eight Days of Light,” a song for Hanukkah.
Though the performance is always clean, the amount of work that goes into preparing a concert goes unseen. With the previous concert being in September, both ensembles have been preparing for this concert since, though it’s not always simple according to orchestra director Ms. Lauren Flack.
“We’re doing a lot of pieces this year,” Ms. Flack said. “So just kind of balancing time and preparing all of the pieces that we’re playing was challenging.”
The holiday season gives the concert a different type of feeling as well as the performances overall. Most songs were on the slower side of things with a nice balance of upbeat as well, making the concert unique and unpredictable.
“It gives us an opportunity to celebrate the holiday spirit,” Ms. Flack said. “I think it’s a little bit more joyful than the others.”
The concert provided the opportunity to bring families, friends and faculty together and for students to build their talent. Their next concert will be held in the spring, so stay on the lookout for information.
