On Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 8, Team Ruff and Team Fluff will face off in a fierce competition of cuteness at Puppy Bowl XXII. The annual event features two teams of adorable and adoptable dogs competing in a miniature football game, filled with toys and touchdowns. The event aims to raise awareness for rescue dogs and help the players find their forever home.
First premiering in 2005, the Puppy Bowl will feature 150 dogs from various shelters and rescues across the country, including a record-breaking 15 dogs with special needs. While the game is not live, it features a halftime show, referees, penalties and a “Lombarky” trophy. For the first time, an exhibition game starring senior dogs will also be included. The event includes awards for MVP (most valuable pup) and Underdog awards, along with information on each pooch and how to apply to adopt them.
The Puppy Bowl has achieved a 100% adoption rate, with all featured puppies finding homes, throughout its over 20-year history. The event raises awareness for the nearly four million dogs in shelters and rescues across America. It has also inspired other similar events, like the Kitten Bowl, to raise awareness for rescue animals.
The Puppy Bowl will air on Sunday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. on Animal Planet, Discovery, TBS, truTV, HBO Max and discovery+.
