The Winter Showcase was a drama production created to give Drama Club members a chance to showcase their talents outside the fall play and spring musical. It was held on Dec. 13 at noon with free tickets available. The show was organized by senior Julianna Hopper, with the help of drama director Mrs. Sarah Fitzkee, experienced choreographer Mrs. Jerica Luhrs and senior co-director Ashantia Dicette.
The production was holiday-themed and was geared mainly towards elementary students but engaging for all ages. Students auditioned on Oct. 23, and 16 students were selected to participate in the showcase. Rehearsals started right after on Nov. 2.
Students performed roles such as the Grinch mayor, townsfolk and dancers through the songs “White Christmas,” “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” “Santa Baby,” “Deck the Halls,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” “What Christmas Means to Me,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “Holly Jolly Christmas.”
To make the showcase, Hopper came up with the idea and presented it to Ms. Fitzkee. Once Mrs. Fitzkee approved it, Hopper and Dicette advertised auditions and then casted the students for each role.
“This show is an excellent opportunity for me to explore one of my passions, even though I’m not going into it as a career path,” Hopper said. “I still enjoy theater and everything about it.”
