This Day in History: Apollo 7 lifts off

On this day, 1968, the very first manned Apollo mission, Apollo 7, launched into orbit with three astronauts on board. The three were Walter M. Schirra, Donn F. Eisele and Walter Cunningham. The mission saw the crew orbit the Earth for 11 consecutive days. They also conducted a live broadcast from orbit for the very first time in history.
