The Veterans Day dinner is an annual event held on Nov. 6 that the members of Junior Historians host to give back to the veterans and their families. Each year, around 50 veterans attend.
“It’s a small token to say thank you,” Junior Historians advisor Mr. Michael Guzenski said.
The jazz band, conducted by Mr. Richard Bullock, will be performing at this year’s dinner. John’s of Arthur Avenue caters the event every year. The dinner will include chicken parm, salad, vegetables and cake.
“My father is a veteran from the Vietnam War and both my grandfathers served in World War II, so there’s a personal connection there,” Mr. Guzenski said. “I’ve gotten close to members of the community after doing this for years, and it’s nice to see them come back year after year.”
Mr. Guzenski hopes that new veterans come to check out the dinner, since veterans that have been coming are getting older. There is a desire to keep many veterans coming as a way to say thank you and show appreciation for what was done for the country.
In previous years, the American Legion has written a letter to commend the school for the time spent celebrating the veterans.
