The special education program along with other students took the trip to Big Bear Mountain to begin their annual Winter Special Olympics. This trip involves skiing lessons for the students in the special education program.
Each athlete gets paired with one of the volunteers to go down the slopes with. Athletes are given the chance to snowshoe around the mountain if they do not want to ski. Advisers Mrs. Mikayla Zaffino and Ms. Hailey Vogel was both thrilled with the start of this year’s program.
The winter special olympics continuously bring great opportunities to these students by teaching them how to ski and giving them new and exciting opportunities.
“[I am most excited about] giving the students a different opportunity that they wouldn’t get without the trip,” said Zaffino.
The highlight for Ms. Vogel was seeing the students get out of their comfort zone and try new things.
This program provides excellent opportunities for students and continues to be a great success for everybody involved.
